What are these states thinking – Rest Area Closed

What are all these states thinking, when they close rest areas?
I mean yea, times are tough but do you really think to close a rest area is a good idea? What happened to safety? There is already enough accidents out on the road, due to tired drivers both cars and trucks. No where to park, what will truckers do?
Arizona made a not so smart move by closing 13 of 18 rest areas, and the 5 they left may close as well. I never ran much through Arizona, so I really don’t know much about it. But 13 rest areas closed, is pretty significant. Someone should start a campaign, you want to close rest areas, well we wont stop in your state or deliver in your state. You come to the state line and get your sh*t!
Most of these states don’t have enough parking as it is, and “ignorant” states such as Virginia and Arizona now want to make them even fewer. They say rest area closers are necessary because they can’t afford to have people working. What the hell do the janitors in these rest areas make per hour? If you can’t afford to pay somebody to keep the rest area open, at least rent some port-a-potty’s and keep the parking open.
I say we call for another BOYCOTT!

Had the same issue when I worked for the Forest Service. All they need to do, is lock the bathrooms and leave the parking lots open. Trash policy, pack your own trash out. Put up signs explaining the locked bathrooms and trash policy. People usually do the the right thing if they know what it is.

Thanks Dave for the comment. Seems like they could do something..that sounds like a good idea you have there.
I live in Orlando, FL and I’m a 48 state driver. I remember some time ago when the state closed the rest areas in Lake Mary on I-4 for “renovations” and then announced they wouldn’t be reopened. They were reopened after the comunity backed the truck drivers and demanded they reopen them.
I say the state legilators need to cut back their pay and start paying for their own medical insurance, I’m shure that would save some money.
