Truck Drivers come together like a Family
December 23, 2009 by Truckdrivernews · 4 Comments
On Tuesday December 22, 2009 hundreds of truck drivers found themselves on their own. The trucking company they gave their all to just up and shut down the operations, and left a message for the drivers.
When the drivers called in, they received a message to tale their trucks to the nearest dealership and to give the keys to the manager. Then, they could call Daimler and they would get them a bus ticket home.
The company CEO did release a statement from CEO Doug Pielsticker, “The company has been in negotiations with its principal lender,” Pielsticker said. “Those negotiations are continuing, but the lender has elected to proceed with securing its collateral. The company is communicating with several interested parties and continues to seek a prompt resolution.”
Funny how this statement took them more than twelve hours to “produce”. After hundreds of their drivers found out the hard way. One can only hope that someone has a list of these corporate bastards and black list them in the trucking industry. They didn’t give a damn about the drivers, or they would have done something to try to get these stranded drivers home.
Daimler is offering the drivers a bus ticket as an incentive to retrieve their trucks. But, what most don’t know is that it’s the driver’s responsibility to get to the bus terminal, so again they are stranded if they even get to a dealership.
But, truck drivers showed yesterday and are still showing today that they are “One big family” no matter who they drive for or whether they are a company driver or owner operator. OOIDA, set up a Facebook page where drivers or anyone willing to help get these driver’s home could post their message along with an email address or phone number, so stranded drivers could contact and get help.
Also you can call OOIDA at 1-800-444-5791 and someone from OOIDA will list the information for you, or try to match you up with a driver needing a ride. The page was setup about four pm central time yesterday and last night already had nearly five hundred members responding in one way or another. Jami Jones senior editor for Land Line Magazine said last night on AMERICA’S TRUCKIN’ NETWORK with Bubba Bo that thirteen hundred drivers plus were possibly stranded, not counting “Trainees”.

I usedto work for them in 2007. A friend of mine was in their lease-operator program. He got shorted almost every week, to the point where he quit and went local. Truck drivers are constantly hit with rules, regulations and sometimes lousy companies. It is pretty messed up what Arrow did. I just pray for the drivers that they are able to get home. Obviously their paychecks will bounce, for those who depend on them to support their families last thing they want around Christmas

Thanks Stephen for your comment, you said it all. I think we all should pray and hope this works itself out without a big mess. Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year!
