Schneider National Inc. soon will begin tracking the work hours of its 13,270 drivers electronically, a significant move in what could turn into a more general shift away from the trucking industry’s much-derided paper logbooks.

Western Pa. trucking operation laying off 52

A New Jersey-based trucking firm plans to lay off all 52 drivers at its western Pennsylvania facility by November.
The layoffs are planned at the Louis J. Kennedy Trucking Co. in Aliquippa, about 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The company is based in Kearny, N.J.
