<p>Oh yea,&#32&#100&#105<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />dn&#8217;t you know about all this? It&#8217;s true, or is it? I heard they were connected&#32&#100&#105rectly to the TIA (Trucking<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> Intelligence Agency).</p>
<p>&#84&#104&#101y carry the &#8220;red phones&#8221; around with them everywhere they go. They are even in&#32&#109&#111b<s></s>ile units, driving around pretending to not know &#119&#104&#97t they are doing, so as not <input type="hidden" />to draw any attention &#116&#111&#32themselves.<span id="more-4167"></span></p>
<p>They receive daily updates by &#8220;apps&#8221; to their &#8220;iPhones&#8221; where they stay connected and can talk&#32&#111&#118er<input id="phpint" type="hidden" /> strategies before going on missions. They have &#110&#105&#103htly gatherings to discuss pu<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />blicly their upcoming&#32&#101&#118ents. But on some special occasions they have othe&#114&#32&#103ath<input id="apps" type="hidden" />erings they try to throw you off with that spec&#105&#102&#105cally talk about the conspirac<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ies, in code mostly.&#32&#89&#111u must be a member of their group to completely un&#100&#101&#114stan<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />d it though.</p>
<p>The leaders try to throw the &#8220;Naysayers&#8221; off track with numbe&#114&#115&#32of listeners they &#8220;say&#8221; they have achieved. They have spies<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> who try and infilt&#114&#97&#116e the real organizations to &#8220;uncover these so-called&#8221; conspiracy theories, and&#32&#115&#112ecula<input id="counter" type="hidden" />tions they have that the trucking industry is&#32&#115&#101t up to fail you as a student tr<input id="apps" type="hidden" />uck driver. Even t&#104&#111&#117gh thousands and thousands of brave students have &#103&#111&#110e on b<input id="apps" type="hidden" />efore.</p>
<p>They continuously &#8220;dream&#8221; up different things to try to get new m&#101&#109&#98ers to join, they have years of e<input id="stats" type="hidden" />xperience to try &#116&#111&#32use to collaborate these fictional stories of scam&#115&#44&#32and abu<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ses. They even involve pets sometimes, and &#109&#97&#107e different accounts all over the <s></s>internet to try &#116&#111&#32make it look as if they are really doing something&#46</p>&#10<p>&#84hey have<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> gone as far as to get some International &#109&#101&#109bers as well. They are now operatin<input id="apps" type="hidden" />g in these know&#110&#32&#99ountries: Canada, Ireland, Australia and the Unite&#100&#32&#83tates. Th<input id="counter" type="hidden" />ey are like virus&#8217;s the more you beat on them, the more&#32&#102&#97lse information they create to try a<s></s>nd lure people&#32&#98&#97ck to them to join their groups.</p>
<p>The rest of us, w&#104&#111&#32are living<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> in reality know what this group is real&#108&#121&#32after though. We all know they are ju<input id="counter" type="hidden" />st here gathe&#114&#105&#110g members to &#8220;call down the mother ship&#8221; to take the group back to their own p&#108&#97&#110et to start<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> up a trucking industry.</p>
<p>There is some &#114&#101&#97l &#8220;cloak and dagger&#8221; kind of &#8220;James Bond &#8211; 007&#8243; kind of stuff going on today in the trucking industry. <p> It had a Jake brake, but &#121&#111&#117<s></s> had to work it manually, if you left it on and &#8220;Jaked&#8221; the engine down, it wo&#117&#108&#100 kill the engine. </p>
<p>I drove <input id="counter" type="hidden" />it for about three mont&#104&#115&#44 pulling a thirty foot East dump trailer. The side&#115&#32&#111f<input id="counter" type="hidden" /> the east trailer were bowed out and not straight&#46<span id="more-4161"></span></p>&#10<p>&#84he pivot pins on the back of<input id="counter" type="hidden" /> the trailer were worn&#32&#111&#117t, and the trailer on level ground would sway back&#32&#97&#110d <s></s>forth &#8220;looked like&#8221; a foot or so, probably an inch or so because of the slop&#112&#121&#32holes. You had to be extremel<s></s>y careful when dumpin&#103&#32&#97 load.</p>
<p>Nearing the winter time, our company would &#100&#111&#32a l<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />ot of work for the Ohio Department of Transport&#97&#116&#105on. We would haul &#8220;rift &#8211; raft&#8221; rock, which is a rock about the size of <input id="apps" type="hidden" />the palm of your han&#100&#46&#32ODOT used it to put in washed out parts of roads t&#104&#97&#116 ran<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> along creeks. The process is to dig out the w&#97&#115&#104ed out part, and build long wir<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />e cages in a box fo&#114&#109&#115, and fill with the rock, and set it back in place&#46&#32&#89es, w<input type="hidden" />e ran a lot of two lane, sometimes one lane r&#111&#97&#100s to deliver for ODOT.</p>
<p>I remembe<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />r traveling toward&#115&#32&#71allipolis, OH. one particular time, and it was on &#97&#32&#83aturda<input id="stats" type="hidden" />y. We were on RT. seven, and I had a pretty &#103&#111&#111d jag on my trailer, Saturdays we<input id="counter" type="hidden" />re almost conside&#114&#101&#100 a free day to haul what you wanted as far as weig&#104&#116&#32was con<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />sidered. The DOT enforcement officers rarel&#121&#32&#119orked Saturdays. I was running wit<input id="apps" type="hidden" />h a group of dri&#118&#101&#114s about six of us together, when suddenly my trail&#101&#114&#32leaned t<input id="counter" type="hidden" />o the right and almost turned over on flat&#32&#103&#114ound. The &#8220;trunnion beam&#8221; that connects the trailer wheels pivo<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />t parts from on&#101&#32&#115ide to the other, broke and allowed the trailer to&#32&#102&#97ll down o<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />n the right side almost touching the tire&#115&#46</p>&#10<p style="text-align: center;">This truck looks almost the same color and all<s></s>.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4163" title="74pete" src="http://www.truckdriversnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/74pete.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="493" /></p>
<p>Oh boy, this was goin&#103&#32&#116o be fun, we had to stop in the highway as there w&#97&#115&#32not a pull<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />-off close by. So, after about an hour o&#102&#32&#97ssessing the situation and how we wer<input type="hidden" />e going to at&#116&#101&#109pt a fix on the side of the road. One of the cars &#116&#104&#97t had gone <input id="apps" type="hidden" />around us must have called the state po&#108&#105&#99e because an OSP unit pulled up that j<input id="stats" type="hidden" />ust so happe&#110&#101&#100 to be a DOT officer.</p>
<p>Great, now we were all overl&#111&#97&#100ed, and all <input id="apps" type="hidden" />were stuck sitting on the road. This c&#111&#112&#32was going to have a field day with us. <input id="counter" type="hidden" />Surprisingl&#121&#32&#104e asked what happened, and not for our paperwork. &#87&#101&#32explained wha<input id="apps" type="hidden" />t happened, and he told us there was &#97&#32&#112ull-off just up the road where we could <input type="hidden" />go and hav&#101&#32&#116he trailer fixed, and more importantly open his ro&#97&#100&#32back up.</p>
<p>He of<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />fered to escort us, as we were going&#32&#116&#111 have to go slowly, and we did so. We got<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> in the p&#97&#114&#107ing lot, and began to work on it. The officer left&#32&#97&#110d said he would<input id="tracker" type="hidden" /> swing back later if we were still &#104&#101&#114e and check on us. We came up with a &#8220;quick fix&#8221; by sliding a 4&#215;4 piece of oak on top<input type="hidden" /> of the &#98&#114&#111ken beam, and jacking the trailer back up level, a&#110&#100&#32chaining it all <input id="stats" type="hidden" />together. LOL, I know it sounds li&#107&#101&#32trying to fix something with duct tape when<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> you ne&#101&#100&#32to weld it, but we did what needed to be done to g&#101&#116&#32the load off, and<input id="tracker" type="hidden" /> get it home.</p>
<p>We set the trailer &#98&#97&#99k down on the ground, which tightened it all<input id="phpint" type="hidden" /> up, a&#110&#100&#32the piece of oak was holding, it worked. Just abou&#116&#32&#116hat time, our litt<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />le buddy the cop showed back up &#116&#111&#32&#8220;Check on us&#8221;. He looked at our fix, and questioned it quite a bit, but f<input id="counter" type="hidden" />inall&#121&#32&#97greed to allow us to continue on.</p>
<p>When we finally &#109&#97&#100e to our destinatio<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />n, we had to &#8220;pile up&#8221; some rock on the side that had broke&#110&#32&#98ecause it still was not completely level with <input id="counter" type="hidden" />our &#102&#105&#120. We piled up the rock to compensate the leaning t&#114&#97&#105ler, and I was able <input id="apps" type="hidden" />to unload and finally head for&#32&#104&#111me. It took us a few days to fix it after work,<input id="tracker" type="hidden" /> bu&#116&#32&#119e finally replaced the broken beam, but it never e&#110&#116&#105rely fixed the traile<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />r as it must have bent someth&#105&#110&#103 when it broke. We would have to pile the rock u<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />p &#111&#110&#32one side from then on while dumping a load on leve&#108&#32&#103round.</p>
<p>I remember savi<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ng the life (or scaring the &#108&#105&#102e out of) an Ohio State Patrol officer one time, <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />w&#105&#116&#104 the Jake Brake. The old Pete, had one single exha&#117&#115&#116 stack, but it was just<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> the hollow shell of a muff&#108&#101&#114, and boy was it loud. Also, the stack was on the <input id="tracker" type="hidden" />&#114&#105&#103ht side, so if you were on that side it was even w&#111&#114&#115e. I was hauling a load <s></s>to a concrete plant, in As&#104&#108&#97nd, KY. and the general route was to travel up U.S&#46<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />&#32&#532 in Ohio.</p>
<p>Traffic in and around Ashland, KY. gets&#32&#112&#114etty heavy at times as U.<input id="counter" type="hidden" />S. 52 is a four lane road&#32&#112&#97rt of the way. I was just outside the city of Ashl&#97&#110<input type="hidden" />&#100, and was in the right lane starting up a small gr&#97&#100&#101 loaded very heavy. At the<input type="hidden" /> top of this grade is an&#32&#111&#110 ramp. I saw a car and the trooper starting up the&#32&#114&#97<input id="stats" type="hidden" />mp, and figured they would meet me at the end of t&#104&#101&#32ramp, so I turned on my tur<input id="stats" type="hidden" />n signal to get over, w&#104&#105&#99h BTW didn&#8217;t happen. All of a sudden the cop decided to pull the&#32&#99&#97r<s></s> over at the end of the ramp. Anybody who has see&#110&#32&#97n OSP unit pull someone over<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> knows they like to no&#115&#101&#32the front of their cars out in front of traffic wh&#105&#108&#101 m<s></s>aking a stop.</p>
<p>I guess they figure this will make&#32&#112&#101ople get over in the other la<input id="counter" type="hidden" />ne. Well, that only w&#111&#114&#107s if the other lane will allow you to move over. T&#104&#105&#115 co<input id="counter" type="hidden" />p pops open his car door without looking, I saw&#32&#105&#116 happen and threw on the binde<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />rs and the Jake Brea&#107&#44&#32and was not slowing much. The cop realized the mis&#116&#97&#107e he<input id="counter" type="hidden" /> had made, and hurriedly jumped back in his cr&#117&#105&#115er and slammed the door, as I b<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />lew past him. It co&#117&#108&#100n&#8217;t have been more than a few inches from his car. His car was d&#111&#105&#110g a l<s></s>ot of rocking when I went by from the wind of&#102&#32&#109y truck. I am betting he had to <input id="apps" type="hidden" />return to his barr&#97&#99&#107s and change his shorts after that.</p>
<p>The area we ra&#110&#32&#105n, saw<input id="phpint" type="hidden" /> our fair share of &#8220;rookie cops&#8221; we must have been the training ground f&#111&#114&#32them when they graduated school. <input id="counter" type="hidden" />I guarantee you h&#101&#32&#108earned a valuable lesson that day. I will end this&#32&#8220;episode&#8221; on that note for &#116&#111&#100ay.</p>

<p>In an effort to &#116&#97&#107e the message directly to the public, the KOHS dis&#116&#114&#105but<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ed posters to businesses statewide including li&#113&#117&#111r establishments, restaurants <input type="hidden" />and bars. The poster&#32&#110&#111t only promotes the use of a designated driver, bu&#116&#32&#115hows<input id="phpint" type="hidden" /> support for those taking on the important res&#112&#111&#110sibility.</p>
<p>&#8220;We are asking all party hosts and <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />bar owners to take &#115&#112&#101cial care of designated drivers,&#8221; said Sigler. &#8220;By making sure these drivers k&#110&#111&#119 how <s></s>much they are appreciated, this year&#8217;s celebration will be &#101&#120&#116ra special &#8211; and extra safe.&#8221;</p>
<p>Super Bowl Sunday is one of Am<input id="stats" type="hidden" />erica&#8217;s biggest and most enterta&#105&#110&#105ng national sporting events as friends and familie&#115&#32&#103ather <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />to socialize and watch the big game. Yet, it&#32&#104&#97s also become one of the nation&#8217;s most dangerou<s></s>s days on the roa&#100&#119&#97ys due to impaired driving.</p>
<p>Nearly a third of all &#109&#111&#116or-vehi<input type="hidden" />cle fatalities in 2008 &#8211; 32 percent &#8211; occurred in crashes attributed to&#32&#97&#108cohol impairment &#8211; meaning a driver or motorcycl<input type="hidden" />e rider had a bl&#111&#111&#100-alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher, accordin&#103&#32&#116o NHTSA <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />research. But that rate jumped to 49 perce&#110&#116&#32&#8211; nearly half &#8211; in the period of Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3 to 5<input id="counter" type="hidden" />:59 a.m. on Feb&#46&#32&#52.</p>
<p><strong>If you are hosting a Super Bowl party:</strong></p>
<li style="text-align: left;">Remember, you can b&#101&#32&#104eld liabl<input id="stats" type="hidden" />e and prosecuted if someone you served en&#100&#115&#32up in an impaired-driving crash.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Make sure all<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> of your guest&#115&#32&#100esignate their sober drivers in advance, or help a&#114&#114&#97nge ride-s<input type="hidden" />haring with other sober drivers.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Serve lots of foo&#100&#32&#97nd include lots of nonalcoholic bever<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ages at the p&#97&#114&#116y.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Stop serving alcohol at the end of the third quarter of t&#104&#101&#32game and be<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />gin serving coffee and dessert.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Keep the numbers &#102&#111&#114 local cab companies handy and take th<input type="hidden" />e keys away &#102&#114&#111m anyone who is thinking of driving while impaired&#46</li>&#10<p><strong>&#73f you are at<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />tending a Super Bowl party or watching&#32&#97&#116 a sports bar or restaurant:</strong></p>
<li>Designate <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />your sober &#100&#114&#105ver before the party begins and leave your car key&#115&#32&#97t home.</li>
<li> Avoi<input id="stats" type="hidden" />d drinking too much alcohol too fast.</li>&#10<li>&#80&#97ce yourself—eat enough food, take brea<input id="counter" type="hidden" />ks and alt&#101&#114&#110ate with nonalcoholic drinks.</li>
<li>If you don&#8217;t have a designated dri&#118&#101&#114, ask a sober <input id="tracker" type="hidden" />friend for a ride home; call a cab, friend or &#102&#97&#109ily member to come and get you; or just stay where <s></s>you are a&#110&#100&#32sleep it off until you are sober.</li>
<li>Use your communi&#116&#121&#8217;s Sober Rid&#101&#115&#32program.</li>
<li>Never <input id="tracker" type="hidden" />let a friend get behind the wheel i&#102&#32&#121ou think they are impaired.<br />
Remember, Fans<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> Don&#8217;t Let Fans Drive &#68&#114&#117nk.</li>

<p>It&#8217;s on page 102 if yo&#117&#32&#103<input type="hidden" />et the magazine, but it was called &#8216;Old School&#8217; by Life Member Robert Esler. G&#114&#101&#97t read BTW, I love articles<input id="counter" type="hidden" /> about how it used to b&#101&#32&#105n trucking it seemed so much better in many ways, &#98&#117&#116 <s></s>to listen to the &#8216;old timers&#8217; it&#8217;s much better today, at least the equipment is.<span id="more-4133"></span></p>
<p>The articl&#101&#32&#98rought back some fond memori<input id="apps" type="hidden" />es that I had tucked a&#119&#97&#121 from when I started driving. Most though would co&#110&#115&#105de<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />r me to not be an &#8216;old school&#8217; driver. But I would say I am, as when I start&#101&#100&#32driving you only had to take <input id="stats" type="hidden" />an eight hour break, &#121&#111&#117 could drive for ten hours &#8211; legally and diesel was Eighty-Five &#99&#101&#110ts <input id="tracker" type="hidden" />per gallon. And I was driving a 1975 Internatio&#110&#97&#108 Cabover truck with a three-fi<input id="stats" type="hidden" />fty Cummings engine &#97&#110&#100 a nine speed transmission.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">The truck pictured here is ident&#105&#99&#97l to<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> the one I drove!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/dshull_transtar2_paint_schemes.htm" target="_blank"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4143" title="international02" src="http://www.truckdriversnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/international02.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="345" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Picture provided by <a href="http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/dshull.htm" target="_blank">Dennis Shull</a> on Hanks Truck&#32&#80&#105ctures thank&#8217;s Dennis</p>
<p>I pulled a 40 foot tand<input id="stats" type="hidden" />em axle Benson coal&#32&#98&#117cket, working for a local owner operator here in K&#101&#110&#116ucky.<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> We hauled mainly anything you could put in a&#32&#8220;dump bucket,&#8221; and be able &#116&#111&#32&#8220;dump&#8221; the load on the ground. My truck didn&#8217;t have air conditioning, unle<input id="stats" type="hidden" />ss you consider ri&#100&#105&#110g with the windows down, and not wearing a shirt a&#110&#100&#32having<input id="phpint" type="hidden" /> a &#8220;dew rag&#8221; tied around your head to keep the sweat out of your eyes, w&#104&#105&#108e wearing &#8220;cut-off&#8221; shorts being A/C.</p>
<p>The truck didn&#8217;t have a Jake brake, o<input id="stats" type="hidden" />r heated mirrors,&#32&#116&#104e windshield wipers operated intermittently all th&#101&#32&#116ime bec<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ause they ran off of an air supply, and it &#119&#111&#117ldn&#8217;t keep a constant flow of air, so I had auto<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />matic wiper dela&#121&#46&#32The engine was &#8220;juiced up&#8221; so much you could actually see raw fuel blowing out&#32&#111&#102 the exh<input id="stats" type="hidden" />aust stack, and if you ever got behind me,&#32&#116&#104e fumes would burn your eyes. Every<input id="tracker" type="hidden" /> load I hauled &#111&#110&#32that old truck grossed more than 40 tons, except w&#104&#101&#110 we haule<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />d mulch. Mulch doesn&#8217;t weigh much, but you get one &#8220;helluva&#8221; looking load on the tr&#97&#105&#108er.</p>
<p>I still have a scar on my right <s></s>leg, from a bu&#114&#110&#32I received from the shifter tower, which was metal&#44&#32&#97nd set dir<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ectly over the engine. The engine had so&#32&#109&#117ch fuel turned to it that you could a<input id="stats" type="hidden" />ctually mash &#116&#104&#101 gas pedal, and watch the temperature gauge rise i&#110&#32&#110eutral. Dri<input type="hidden" />vers back then had skill, it was called&#32&#101&#97rning a living. We did what we had to <input id="apps" type="hidden" />do to earn a&#32&#100&#101cent pay check, which BTW was sometimes a lot more&#32&#116&#104an it is tod<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ay. Today&#8217;s drivers most can&#8217;t relate to this- post because they n&#101&#118&#101r heard of some of the things I have an<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />d will talk&#32&#97&#98out here.</p>
<p>We had one particular load that I hauled&#32&#113&#117ite often, it<input id="phpint" type="hidden" /> was a load of &#8220;sorbent stone&#8221; short for &#8220;absorbent&#8221; or at least the quarry called it this be&#99&#97&#117se it went to a Marathon Refinery and wa<s></s>s used in &#97&#32&#102ilter. The way they made it reminded me of a &#8220;black top&#8221; plant, with the &#8220;kiln&#8221; turning as the stone went &#116&#104&#114ough it was he<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ated and was very dusty, the dust wa&#115&#32&#110eeded for the filter to work.</p>
<p>Anyway, if <input id="tracker" type="hidden" />you can i&#109&#97&#103ine driving this old truck, with no A/C and the wi&#110&#100&#111ws down, pullin<s></s>g in under a huge building that had&#32&#97&#32vacuum recovery system that covered your t<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />railer. &#73&#116&#32was supposed to collect all the dust. &#8220;Supposed to&#8221; being the key phrase here.&#32&#84&#104is BTW, was the <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />last load of the day because the r&#101&#102&#105nery was open twenty-four hours a day and y<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />ou coul&#100&#32&#117nload any time. Myself being hot and sticky from r&#117&#110&#110ing like a scalde<input id="apps" type="hidden" />d dog literally all day, would ro&#108&#108&#32up under the vacuum recovery system in that <input id="tracker" type="hidden" />buildi&#110&#103&#44 and get completely covered in this dust.</p>
<p>It only &#116&#111&#111k one time doing i<input id="apps" type="hidden" />t that I figured out the vacuum &#114&#101&#99overy system didn&#8217;t do its job. From then on out I had to r<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />oll t&#104&#101&#32windows up, and if you didn&#8217;t turn the heater on full blast the &#100&#117&#115t would still choke<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> you as it came in every little&#32&#99&#114evice there was in that truck. Also, keep in m<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />ind &#116&#104&#105s was a limestone rock, and lime and sweat do not &#109&#105&#120 very well. The load<s></s>er operator would have to gues&#115&#32&#97t how much he was putting on you because for so<input type="hidden" />me &#114&#101&#97son that stone varied in weight, and when loaded y&#111&#117&#32would have to go to t<input type="hidden" />he scale, and either tarp it &#111&#114&#32go back for more or to dump some off.</p>
<p>That was a<s></s>ls&#111&#32&#97 load we could only haul eighty-three thousand pou&#110&#100&#32gross. The refinery&#8217;s rules not ours<input type="hidden" />. Once loaded and tarp-ed, w&#101&#32&#104eaded for the refinery, at seems like mach one sp<input id="stats" type="hidden" />e&#101&#100&#32because usually there was about fifteen or so truc&#107&#115&#32racing up the road to b<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />e first in line to unload. &#84&#104&#101 refinery&#8217;s silo could only hold ten loads, and anything after h<input id="apps" type="hidden" />&#97&#100&#32to sit and wait for them to make room. So it was v&#101&#114&#121 important to be in the <input id="apps" type="hidden" />top ten as finishers of th&#101&#32&#114ace. The refinery was located about seventy miles &#97<s></s>&#119&#97y from the quarry and about eighty miles from wher&#101&#32&#73 parked the truck. So, ag<input id="counter" type="hidden" />ain you can realize the i&#109&#112&#111rtance of being at least in the top ten, upon arri&#118&#105<input id="counter" type="hidden" />&#110g.</p>
<p>The company we were leased to had all new equip&#109&#101&#110t T-600 Ken-worth&#8217;s with Cat. engines, a<input id="apps" type="hidden" />nd shiny new East dump t&#114&#97&#105lers. I could easily outrun anyone of these trucks&#44&#32&#111<input id="stats" type="hidden" />n flat ground. Therein lies the problem we were no&#116&#32&#105n flat ground. But, usually<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> I could hold my own. T&#104&#101&#105r trucks were governed at around 75mph, mine didn&#8217;t know what a &#103&#111&#118e<input id="counter" type="hidden" />rnor was. I could run pretty fast down the road, &#73&#32&#115ay pretty fast because the s<input type="hidden" />peedometer worked abou&#116&#32&#104alf the time, then I didn&#8217;t really know how fast I was going by &#108&#111&#111ki<s></s>ng at it either as it probably wasn&#8217;t accurate, but I could es&#116&#105&#109ate it, by the tachometer and<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> it was pretty damn f&#97&#115&#116.</p>
<p>In the days leading up to time to get rid of tha&#116&#32&#111ld <input id="apps" type="hidden" />truck, my boss didn&#8217;t want to spend a lot of money on it. So,&#32&#119&#104en the brakes &#8220;cammed over&#8221; we didn&#8217;t replace them. Time came for me to <input id="tracker" type="hidden" />step out of that old&#32&#116&#114uck into my &#8220;new&#8221; 1974 359 Peterbuilt truck we had. This was a jewel of a truc&#107&#46&#32It h<input id="stats" type="hidden" />ad a four hundred Cummings engine in it, with &#97&#32&#110umber four button in the fuel p<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ump, and two hundre&#100&#32&#97nd twenty pounds of rail pressure on the fuel. It &#104&#97&#100 a th<s></s>irteen speed transmission in it. It would blo&#119&#32&#115ome smoke. It had three-seventy-<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />three rears in it,&#32&#97&#110d I would imagine it could run well over one-hundr&#101&#100&#32mph wi<input type="hidden" />th forty tons on the trailer.</p>
<p>Some drivers w&#111&#117&#108d pull up beside me, and look and<input type="hidden" /> laugh and point &#109&#97&#107ing jokes on the CB radio, until we took off, and &#116&#104&#101n they <input id="tracker" type="hidden" />would wonder what was under the hood, and s&#111&#109&#101 instances if I was &#8220;burning Kerosene&#8221; because of all the smok<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />e. These days, i&#102&#32&#97 tractor trailer is blowing smoke, then usually a &#116&#117&#114bo went <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />out. I am going to end this article here, &#98&#117&#116 keep visiting as there will be mor<input id="apps" type="hidden" />e to come.</p>

<p>All this talk, the l&#97&#115&#116 few months over trucking s<input id="counter" type="hidden" />chool scams, and a show&#32&#116&#111night endorsing a &#8220;recruiting website&#8221; I figure I would do my usual thing, and&#32&#116&#114y<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> and figure out what the heck is going on today i&#110&#32&#116he trucking industry.</p>
<p>CDL Mi<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />ll recruiters tell all&#32&#116&#104e lies, and make everything sound like roses smell&#46&#32&#84he<input id="stats" type="hidden" />y recruit a lot of people into these schools whi&#99&#104&#32were labeled as school scams <input id="apps" type="hidden" />last month. </p>
<p>Well, re&#99&#114&#117iting websites do the exactly same thing. They all&#32&#114&#117n a<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ds like &#8220;Company Paid CDL Training Programs!&#8221; or &#8220;Professional Job Placement for CDL Truc&#107&#32&#68rivers!&#8221; What makes them any different? I do<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />n&#8217;t see any difference&#8217;s in Cdl Mills or these w&#101&#98&#115ites.</p>
<p>You can Google trucking jobs, and thousands &#119&#105&#108l co<s></s>me up. Every last one of them claim exactly th&#101&#32&#115ame things. Some can claim they<input type="hidden" /> won&#8217;t charge the driver anything&#46&#32&#84his maybe true, so who pays them? If the drivers a&#114&#101&#32not p<input id="counter" type="hidden" />aying them, and the &#8220;recruitment website&#8221; is claiming it can get you a jo&#98&#44&#32then the company is paying them <input id="stats" type="hidden" />to recruit you as &#97&#32&#100river.</p>
<p>I just don&#8217;t understand, how one month certain ones can s&#99&#114&#101am fou<input type="hidden" />l, and the next month they are all for what &#116&#104&#101y were against last month. Which <s></s>is it? You are fo&#114&#32&#116his or you are against it? </p>
<p style='text-align:left'>&copy; 2010, <a href='http://www.truckdriversnews.com'>Truck Drivers News</a>. All right&#115&#32&#114eserved<input id="counter" type="hidden" />. </p>

<p><img src="http://www.truckdriversnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/clydeape.jpg" alt="" title="clydeape" width="300" height="232" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-4123" />First of all, I don&#8217;t &#8220;claim to be an expert&#8221; but I do have some suggestions for new male o&#114&#32&#102emale truckers to be able <input type="hidden" />to survive the grueling &#116&#105&#109e spent with a trainer. </p>
<p>It is very true some trai&#110&#101&#114<input id="counter" type="hidden" />s don&#8217;t know how to train. I am not meaning they don&#8217;t know how to train you f&#111&#114&#32the job, but how to go abou<s></s>t doing the process. So&#109&#101&#32companies if you have been driving for two months &#121&#111&#117 <input id="stats" type="hidden" />can be considered a trainer. This is usually the &#107&#105&#110ds of companies you will hav<input id="apps" type="hidden" />e problems with.<span id="more-4122"></span></p>
<p>A lot&#32&#111&#102 companies don&#8217;t look for &#8220;quality trainers&#8221; but look for a &#8220;quantity in trainers&#8221;. As they get so many new truck driver&#115&#44&#32th<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ey really have no choice in the matter. As long &#97&#115&#32the driver hasn&#8217;t had any accidents, is rea<s></s>lly all they care abo&#117&#116&#46 The insurance companies are basically the ones th&#97&#116&#32tel<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />l them who is allowed to train and who isn&#8217;t, when the driver&#32&#111&#110ly has two months experience. <input id="apps" type="hidden" />Meaning, can this dr&#105&#118&#101r be insured to have someone ride with them or not&#46</p>&#10<p>&#84he g<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ood trainers that the industry has, usually ha&#118&#101&#32been driving for a long time. T<input type="hidden" />hey have years of e&#120&#112&#101rience, and are really good at what they do. Very &#115&#101&#108dom w<input id="counter" type="hidden" />ill a good trainer have less than a couple of&#32&#121&#101ars experience driving a truck. <input id="apps" type="hidden" />In my experience w&#105&#116&#104 training new drivers at previous companies, is th&#101&#32&#104ardest<input id="counter" type="hidden" /> to train, is a driver from another company.&#32&#84&#104is is what I would always tell ne<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />w drivers from ot&#104&#101&#114 companies. &#8220;Just because you have been driving before you came &#104&#101&#114e does <input id="apps" type="hidden" />not mean you have been doing it right.&#8221;</p>
<p>My main experienc&#101&#32&#104as been in &#8220;heavy haul&#8221; with a coal bucket, and flat bed with <input type="hidden" />oversize, and li&#113&#117&#105d and pneumatic tankers. There is way more to trai&#110&#105&#110g involv<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ed in these parts of the industry than in &#106&#117&#115t general freight pulling a dry van<input type="hidden" />. I have never &#116&#114&#97ined anyone for general freight as I didn&#8217;t pull a dry van, but &#109&#97&#121be six mo<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />nths total.</p>
<p><strong>For all new drivers:</strong><br />
My sugge&#115&#116&#105on for you to be able to survive tra<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ining with a m&#97&#108&#101 trainer, is to get rid of your attitude. Listen t&#111&#32&#101verything <input id="stats" type="hidden" />the trainer has to say. Obviously, if th&#101&#32&#116rainer tells you to do something ille<input id="apps" type="hidden" />gal don&#8217;t, you are supposed&#32&#116&#111 know the driving rules, so use your head. If you &#100&#111&#32not know ho<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />w to do something tell them you don&#8217;t know how to do &#115&#111&#109ething. Ask questions, but don&#8217;t get annoying with t<input id="apps" type="hidden" />hem. Give th&#101&#32&#116rainer some space, you are in his &#8220;house&#8221;. Don&#8217;t bring annoying &#8220;toys&#8221; on the truck with you. If you smoke and the train&#101&#114&#32does not smo<input id="counter" type="hidden" />ke, don&#8217;t smoke.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t come on the truck &#8220;acting like&#8221; you know everything. Use common sense, &#105&#102&#32you have any and try to get along. If y<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ou feel you&#32&#97&#114e not able to get along with a trainer, then try g&#101&#116&#116ing off the t<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ruck as soon as possible. Don&#8217;t keep putting it off&#44&#32&#121our first instinct is always your best i<s></s>nstinct.</p>
<p><strong>F&#111&#114&#32new women drivers:</strong><br />
Same goes for you listed above,&#32&#98&#117t adding to it<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />. What I always told my daughter whi&#108&#101&#32she was growing up in high school, if you<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> dress, t&#97&#108&#107, and act like a &#8220;slut&#8221;, &#8220;whore&#8221; or whatever then you will most likely be treated like one. Sorry to put i&#116&#32&#112oint blank to y<s></s>ou like this, but it is true. Women&#32&#108&#105ke to &#8220;complain&#8221; I know I am married, don&#8217;t do a lot of complaining if the trainer a<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />sk you t&#111&#32&#100o something. It&#8217;s a job not a game so be prepared to get dirty.</p>
<p>&#79&#98&#118iously getting d<input id="stats" type="hidden" />ressed with the curtain open is no&#116&#32&#110ormal. Use your head, statistically women a<input id="counter" type="hidden" />re supp&#111&#115&#101d to be smarter than men. But a lot of women I kno&#119&#32&#104ave no common sen<input id="apps" type="hidden" />se. This is by far not all that c&#97&#110&#32be done, hopefully some women will read this<input id="tracker" type="hidden" /> and a&#100&#100&#32their two cents in the comments.</p>
<p>As with any of my&#32&#112&#111st/articles these <s></s>are just my opinions, take them &#102&#111&#114 what they are worth. If anyone has something<input id="phpint" type="hidden" /> to a&#100&#100&#32that is relevant then feel free to do so in the co&#109&#109&#101nt section. </p>

It h&#97&#115&#32<input id="counter" type="hidden" />been making the news quite a bit, and is the third&#32&#99&#104oking related accident, in <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />the last couple of week&#115&#46<span id="more-4115"></span></p>&#10<p>Eric Gremm, 59, was driving the truck and reported&#108&#121&#32e<input type="hidden" />ating a bowl of chili, and the truck hit a bump i&#110&#32&#116he road causing him to get c<input id="apps" type="hidden" />hoked, and pass out. T&#104&#101&#32truck veered off the road and ran into a house Fri&#100&#97&#121 J<input type="hidden" />anuary 29, 2010 in Lowell, Massachusetts. There &#119&#97&#115 a woman inside the house at <input id="phpint" type="hidden" />the time of the accid&#101&#110&#116, but was unhurt. The driver was taken to the hosp&#105&#116&#97l w<input type="hidden" />ith minor injuries.</p>
<p>Yesterday a report came out&#32&#116&#104at building inspectors and pol<input id="apps" type="hidden" />ice checked the hous&#101&#32&#97nd said that the safest way to remove the truck, w&#104&#105&#99h ha<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />s been lodged inside the house since Friday, w&#97&#115&#32to tear down the house around t<input id="apps" type="hidden" />he truck. Now, they&#32&#119&#105ll have to tear the house down, and build one back&#32&#73&#32am su<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />re, as it was not the house&#8217;s owners fault that the truck i&#115&#32&#115itting inside it.</p>
<p>Talk about an <s></s>expensive bowl of &#99&#104&#105li. Wow, I hope it was some good chili too. Report&#115&#32&#101arlier<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> said it was a bowl of chili from Wendy&#8217;s. But, it didn&#8217;t say the chili &#104&#97&#100 anything to do with the accident<input id="apps" type="hidden" />, other than the &#100&#114&#105ver got choked from eating and hit a bump in the r&#111&#97&#100.</p>

<p>This happened here as well a few m&#111&#110&#116<input id="apps" type="hidden" />hs ago, our &#8220;County Judge Executive&#8221; was caught speeding and drunk driving, an&#100&#32&#116he county seat&#8217;s police chief was also ca<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ught drinking and drivi&#110&#103&#46 </p>
<p>The story out of Miamisburg, Ohio reads a local &#106&#117&#100g<input id="stats" type="hidden" />e is back on the bench despite the fact he himsel&#102&#32&#105s facing criminal charges.<span id="more-4108"></span></p>
<p>I&#8217;m sorry, but <input id="counter" type="hidden" />if he was caught for d&#114&#105&#110king and driving he <strong>SHOULD NOT</strong> be allowed to hand &#100&#111&#119n <input id="apps" type="hidden" />verdicts for such crimes. If a truck driver is c&#97&#117&#103ht drinking and driving, he i<input type="hidden" />s not able to return &#116&#111&#32his job, and get a pay check. If getting caught fo&#114&#32&#100riv<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />ing a vehicle under the influence wasn&#8217;t bad enough, this jud&#103&#101&#32had an accident to boot, and t<input type="hidden" />ried to apologize to&#32&#116&#104e victim saying he was sorry that he was going to &#102&#97&#115t.</p>
<p>T<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />he judge refused to do a field sobriety test a&#110&#100&#32was arrested and taken to the p<input type="hidden" />olice station where&#32&#104&#101 also refused a breath analyzer test. Under Ohio l&#97&#119&#32this <input type="hidden" />refusal cost him his driving license for one &#121&#101&#97r automatically. But on Monday, <s></s>the judge was all &#98&#117&#115iness, on the bench. He was handling cases of traf&#102&#105&#99 viola<input id="stats" type="hidden" />tions, multiple cases of underage consumptio&#110&#32&#97nd possession and four cases of d<input id="counter" type="hidden" />riving under the &#105&#110&#102luence.</p>
<p>I feel this judge should have removed hims&#101&#108&#102 from h<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />is duties, and should not be allowed to han&#100&#108&#101 cases of any traffic violations, <input id="counter" type="hidden" />and especially a&#110&#121&#32cases of driving under the influence. I just wonde&#114&#32&#119hy, peop<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />le above the law, that enforce the law, th&#105&#110&#107 they don&#8217;t need to obey the law? <strong>Bad judge!</strong> </p>

<p><img src="http://www.truckdriversnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/why.jpg" alt="" title="why" width="245" height="300" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-4101" />Before you go getting all upset, at me for writin&#103&#32&#116his. Please take the time <input id="stats" type="hidden" />to actually read all of &#116&#104&#105s-post. And yes I have always supported this, but &#73&#32&#97<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />m beginning to fall towards the non supporting sid&#101&#46<span id="more-4100"></span>&#32</p>
<p>So, I would like for someo<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ne to explain to me why&#32&#116&#104is bill is needed so bad. If I read the bill right&#44&#32&#105t<input id="stats" type="hidden" /> will only be for 20 million dollars per year for&#32&#102&#105ve years, and each state mus<s></s>t apply for this money&#46&#32&#73 know I have heard others say, well it is a start.&#32&#77&#117st<input id="tracker" type="hidden" /> be because 20 million is not a lot of money, wh&#101&#110&#32it comes to construction to b<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />uild parking lots.</p>
<p>Al&#115&#111&#44 where is this money coming from? I keep seeing th&#101&#32&#111nes<input id="tracker" type="hidden" /> that support this saying &#8220;No more Trucker Deaths&#8221; how is this going to sto&#112&#32&#116ruck drivers from being killed<input id="tracker" type="hidden" /> by random acts of v&#105&#111&#108ence? I&#8217;m sorry, but in the last four deaths, including Jason Ri&#118&#101&#110burg<input type="hidden" />, how would this bill have helped? </p>
<p>All four d&#114&#105&#118ers were not in a public parkin<input id="stats" type="hidden" />g places, one was a&#116&#32&#97n abandoned gas station, one was on an exit ramp i&#110&#32&#67alifo<input type="hidden" />rnia, one was in another parking place that w&#97&#115&#32just a pull off according to the<input id="apps" type="hidden" /> report in Califor&#110&#105&#97, and one happened in broad daylight up near Chica&#103&#111&#44 along<input id="counter" type="hidden" /> the inter state.</p>
<p>Yes, there is a need for m&#111&#114&#101 parking. I know this post will b<input type="hidden" />ring some mean th&#111&#117&#103hts towards me, but at this point I really don&#8217;t care. These que&#115&#116&#105ons nee<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />d answers. Just by saying this will keep tr&#117&#99&#107ers from dying because of random a<input id="tracker" type="hidden" />cts of violence &#105&#115&#32preposterous at least. Yes, if parking security an&#100&#32&#117pgrading<s></s> parking lots with fences were applicable,&#32&#97&#110d there was enough money to do it I<input id="counter" type="hidden" /> could maybe se&#101&#32&#116hat it was needed.</p>
<p>Also, all truck drivers do not &#112&#97&#114k in truc<input id="counter" type="hidden" />k stops, Jason&#8217;s Uncle even said he didn&#8217;t like to park at truck stop&#115&#32&#116hat he preferred to be by himself. S<s></s>eems like the &#99&#111&#110ceal and carry bill would have been a better one t&#111&#32&#116ry and get<input type="hidden" /> passed. And before you &#8220;haters&#8221; turn this into a @Truckdrivernews i&#115&#32&#98ashing Hope Rivenburg again-post. I w<input id="phpint" type="hidden" />ant you to kn&#111&#119&#32I have called and talked to my Senators and Repres&#101&#110&#116atives all <s></s>along, I&#8217;ve emailed them as well to try to get them o&#110&#32&#116his bill. </p>
